Today's story is all about Verizon Fios, and why you should never ever never use them as a cable TV/Internet company if you have not already and if you are why you should switch.
First off I have been a customer for over 20 years and never ever paid my bill late once despite my financial ups and downs......I did not deserve to be treated this way.
First thing was my computer slowed down and they talked me into paying for enhanced internet service....which come to see I did not need! It was my operating system, if anything they tricked me into thinking I needed faster internet.
The I decided that I no longer wish to have cable TV, I only watch Netflix and if i want news or anything else i get it online on my computer or smart TV.
Well the only hours I could call then was when I was at work so I had to skip my half hour lunch to do this......first guy just refused to disconnect my TV kept saying people in my home watch it I said people in my home do not pay the bill......he got so rude I hung up and called someone else.....long story short I ended up arranging to return 1 set box, upgrade my internet downgrade my TV and pay $30 less per month. But when I got home my son said the TV was no good and I found out the upgraded internet was no different that what I already had. When I told my friend she said I had 30 days to back out....so I messaged the Verizon Fios person friday night at 10pm and she took care of everything basically cutting my bill in half! only $70 per month, I would return BOTH cable boxes instead of just one the next day........then I got an e-mail saying I would be charged $350 early cancellation fee for the new 2 yr contract. The woman on the chat made alot of notes and told me to call the next day to have that removed as it was not 30 days it was not even 3 days!
Next day 8:05 am I call and THEY REFUSED TO TAKE OFF THE $350!! I spoke to the guy I asked for his supervisor I went online...no one would fix this! So I started talking about it online to all my friends far and wide and warning them............I have found only one solution and that is to quit Verizon once and for all and that there are Internet companies that will pay your early cancellation fee to get your business! I am going to research those and follow up here with them so the rest of you all know who to switch to. If you have any suggesgtions please leave comments here!
Its time to rise up and cut the cords! Save money and quit being raked over the coals in crazy fees!
Just say NO to #VERIZON!!! #CUT THE CORD! We work hard for our money!
*update Sat* someone suggested that I file complaints with Better Business, the Federal Communications Commission and the NJ Office of Cable Television & Telecommunications
I plan to do this on Monday!
*update Mon* I called Verizon one more time today because someone on the facebook page told me to call today and it would be corrected. I did call and wasted 20 more miniutes of my life. I was again denied resolution of my $350.....therefore I have filed complaints with the FCC and the NJ Board of Public Utitlies. Trying to find the Better Business Bureau and the NJ Office of Cable TV but they just seem to lead me nowhere when I click to file a claim. I will not give up this fight, this is wrong for them to treat people this way just because they no longer want TV.

BBB is a joke!!!!!!! I also filed a complaint against Verizon for a fraudulent charge. They ended up removing the charge but canceled my damn service even though they were at fault and I had proof!!!!!!! Verizon is a very fraudulent company if you ask me!!!!!!!!
Verizon could care less for bad PR because they are too busy screwing others and making money from people who won't complain.
If you already filed an FCC complaint, the BBB is redundant. Either, would forward your complaint to Verizon and you get contact by upper management.
It is likely that your renegotiation with a lower price, also put you under a new contract. Contract law 101, you have 3 days to rescind. 30 days is how long you have to return a dress you don’t like.
Did you ask if you were under contract when you renegotiated a lower bill? Lowering the bill to “new customer” rates may legitimately put you under 2 year contract. New customer rates are not a rate at which the provider makes a profit, which is why they want to keep you long term, till they do. Having done so with At&t and Cox, you have to ask if negotiating a lower price puts you under contract, they aren’t going to tell you.
It’s not fraud. It’s a sucky business practice and they should be ashamed since you had been with them many years.
FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE ATTORNEY GENERAL. ALSO if you have local news stations that go after companies that try to get away with cheating the consumer they are usually successful, at least they are here in Massachusetts. Do a search for your state "file a consumer complaint"
*Update 5/14/19*
I have received a voice mail from Verizon executive offices in response to a complaint received by the state commision on communications. She said someone from the business office will be contacting me to resolve this issue.
Got a call from the executive offices, they were not able to take the $350 off as that is how the system is sent up but he can give me a $290 credit (less the original $60 early cancellation fee for my origional contract)......so fighting them did pay off but so sad that this much time and effort and involving government agencies had to occur. I still say just say no to Verizon.....someday I will but for now I am stuck for 2 years......then again I heard that there are compainies out there that willpay your early cancellation fees if you switch....going to look into that.....
Love to all, Cassie
PS Here is the link to the FFC complaint page, of all the agencies I filed a complaint they are the ONLY one that got back to me: https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/filing-informal-complaint
